Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a dog name tag?
Dog name name tags are small tags, typically made from metal that are engraved or printed with the dog's name and the owners contact details, which is then attached to the dogs collar or harness. The name tag is designed to help the owner recover their pet if the dog has become lost.
Choose a size and shape for a name tag that is easy to read and comfortable for your dog.

Why do I need a dog name tag?
Dog name registration is a legal requirement in most cities and towns for all dogs over 3-months old to help reduce the number of stray or lost dogs. The dog's name tag must be attached to the dog's collar or harness.

What information should I put on my dog's name tag?
Your pet's name tag should include your dog's name, which when spoken helps to calm them down if lost. Your contact phone number is also important. It's generally not good security to add your full address.
Adding "microchipped" can also be added to the dog's name tag.

What is the most durable material for my dog name tag?
The most durable material for making a dog name tag is stainless steel which is one of the toughest metals on the planet. It will not rust or oxidise, tarnish or fade and has excellent scratch resistance. This is why stainless steel is used for kitchen cutlery, commercial kitchens, home appliances and boat fittings. It is also an excellent choice for active pets who enjoy both indoor and outdoor adventures. We also use tough silver plated steel for the glitter and gloss style pet ID tags.

Try to avoid "soft" metals such as brass for pet name tags, which can oxidise if wet and possibly turn your pet's coat green. Aluminium should also be avoided as it can easily get bent, scratched or damaged. Plastic cat name tags are the least favourable material, as they can scratch easily, crack, break and become lost.

Do I need to get my dog microchipped?
Yes, all cats and dogs must be microchipped before being sold or given away, or by 12 weeks of age. The owner's details at the time of microchipping must be recorded by a vet or authorised identifier. These details can only be updated by a transfer of ownership.

How long does a microchip last in a dog?
A microchip implanted in a dog is designed to last for the entirety of the animal's life. It is a permanent form of electronic identification and does not require any maintenance or replacement. Microchips are made of biocompatible materials and have no battery or moving parts, meaning they do not degrade or wear out over time.

While microchipping is a good safety measure, it requires an electronic scanner to access the information. Having a visible pet name tag with the dog owners contact information is much faster to access the identification for a lost pet.

Should you put a microchip number on a dog's name tag?
It's important to add the word - 'microchipped' on your pet's name tag so that way  they know that the dog is microchipped.

How is my stainless steel dog name tag made?
About Pets only use the finest silver plated and premium grade stainless steel  for dog name tags. Your dog's details are ultra
deep laser engraved into the metal to include -  the dogs name and the owner's phone number using high powered laser engraving machines.

Will my engraved details rub off the dog's name tag?
Definitely Not.
We cut your details into the stainless steel dog name tag so deep the information will never wear off and give a Lifetime Warranty on the engraving.

How do I attach my dog's name tag?
The dog's name tag is supplied with a set of two split rings to attach the dog's name tag to the D-ring on your dog's collar or harness.

Why Use TWO Split-Rings on the Name Tag:  We use two split rings to enhance security - as the name tag is more securely attached to the collar and less likely to detach during play activities. The set of two flat rings also helps to prevent stress from the name tag from snagging or twisting on the pet's collar.

If your dog or puppy is small, then we would suggest you remove the larger split ring so the dog's name tag doesn't hang too low from your pet's neck.

Optional Snap-Ring
We also have an optional quick release Snap-Ring
that allows you to easily attach or remove your dog name tag from a collar to a harness when taking your pet outside for a walk.

Are your dog name tags stocked in Australia?
Yes, we stock and laser engrave dog name tags on the Gold Coast Queensland forstrict quality control and inspectionswith fast 24-hour order processing and despatch Monday - Friday.
