Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is a cat name ID tag?
Cat name ID tags are small tags, typically made from metal or plastic that are engraved or printed with the cat's name and the owners contact details, which is then attached to the cat's collar or harness. The name tag is designed to help the owner recover their pet if the cat has become lost. Choose a tag size and shape that is easy to read and is comfortable for your cat.

Why do I need a cat name ID tag?
Yes, even indoor cats need an cat name tag as accidents often happen, and indoor cats can easily escape from your home. A cat name name tag provides a quick way for someone to identify your cat if lost, so they can easily contact you to arrange the return of your pet. The cat name tag should be clipped to the cat's collar or harness.

What information should I put on my cat's name ID tag?
Your pet iD name tag should include your cat's name, which when spoken helps to calm them down if lost. Your contact phone number is also important so that you can be easily contacted. It's generally not good security to add your full address. The word "M
icrochipped" can also be added to the cat tag if relevant.

What is the most durable material for my cat name ID tag?
The most durable material for making a cat name tag is stainless steel which is one of the toughest metals on the planet. It will not rust or oxidise, tarnish or fade and has excellent scratch resistance. This is why stainless steel is used for kitchen cutlery, commercial kitchens, home appliances and boat fittings. It is also an excellent choice for active pets who enjoy both indoor and outdoor adventures. We also use tough silver plated zinc alloy for the glitter and gloss style pet name ID tags.

Try to avoid "soft" metals such as brass for pet name tags, which can oxidise if wet and possibly turn your pet's coat green. Aluminium should also be avoided as it can easily get bent, scratched or damaged. Plastic dog name tags are the least favourable material, as they can scratch easily, crack, break and become lost.

Do I need to get my cat microchipped?
Yes, all cats and dogs should be microchipped before being sold or given away, or by 12 weeks of age. The owner's details at the time of microchipping must be recorded by a vet or authorised identifier. These details can only be updated by a transfer of ownership.

How long does a microchip last in a cat?
A microchip implanted in a cat is designed to last for the entirety of the animal's life. It is a permanent form of electronic identification and does not require any maintenance or replacement. Microchips are made of biocompatible materials and have no battery or moving parts, meaning they do not degrade or wear out over time.

While microchipping is a good safety measure, it requires an electronic scanner to access the information - usually by a vet. Having a visible pet name tag on your pet with the owner's contact information is a much faster way to access the identification for a lost pet and return the pet to their owner.

Should you put a microchip number on a cat name ID tag?
It's a good idea to put the word "microchipped" on your pet's name tag in addition to your pet's name and your contact phone number.

How is my cat name ID tag made?
About Pets only use premium grade stainless steel and silver plated zinc alloy for cat name tags. Your cat's details are ultra
deep laser engraved into the metal to include -  the cat's name and the owner's phone number using high powered laser engraving machines.

Will my engraved details rub off the cat name ID tag?
Definitely Not
. We cut your details into the stainless steel and silver plated zinc alloy metal name tags so deep the information will never wear off. We give a Lifetime Warranty on the engraving.

How do I attach my cat name name ID tag?
The cat name tag is supplied with a set of two split rings to attach to the D-ring on your cat's collar or harness. We also have an optional quick release Snap-ring
that allows you to easily attach or remove your cat name tag from a collar to a harness.

Why Use TWO Split-Rings on the Pet name ID Tag:  We use a set of two split rings to enhance security - as the tag is more flexible and securely attached to the collar with it less likely to detach during play activities. The set of two flat split rings also helps to prevent stress from the snagging or twisting of the name tag on the pet's collar.

If your pet is small, then we would suggest you remove the larger split ring so the name tag doesn't hang too low from your pet's neck.

Are your cat name ID tags stocked in Australia?
Yes, we stock and laser engrave cat name tags on the Gold Coast Queensland for strict quality control, production and fast despatch of your order from the Gold Coast within 24-hours Monday - Friday.
